Children’s Ministry at First
Presbyterian Church is dedicated to the education, care and nurture
of children from birth through sixth grade. We place an emphasis on
giving children a solid foundation in scripture and spiritual
formation through experiential learning in a variety of settings.
Our Sunday morning nursery offers a
warm and loving environment for our youngest congregants; while
preschool aged children experience God’s word and love through Bible
stories, music and self-expression. Children in kindergarten
through sixth grade are enthusiastic and excited about the River
of Faith Rotation Model church school where they get to explore
their faith through a multitude of experiences.
On Sunday’s after church school we
offer Harbor Time, a program for k- 5th graders
with a different activity announced weekly. Tuesday’s E.T.C.
programs include children’s choirs, and ALPHA, a
fellowship group for 3rd – 5th graders.
The Point is a contemporary worship service on Tuesdays at 6:45
that is very inclusive of children. The night is rounded out with
dinner followed by youth and adult study time (7:30 –
9:00).
A variety of other events and
programs are offered throughout the year that are specifically for
or inclusive of children.
Bible
Sunday – On this special day
in the Fall, third graders are presented with their very own Bible
embossed with their name. Each child is paired with a sponsor
chosen especially for them by the Christian Education Committee.
The Bible recipients and their sponsors are encouraged to develop a
relationship that may last a lifetime. The gifting of Bibles is a
tangible way to pass on the faith story from one generation to the
next and continue our commitment to our children made in Baptism.
