Better Together- Spring Sermon Series

Peanut Butter and Jelly, Oreos and Milk, Coffee and a Doughnut. What do all these things have in common? They are Better Together!

Better Together- this is the slogan of our spring sermon series and it is the point on the book of Ephesians. We are not meant to walk this road of life and faith alone. Often we forget that we need this community of faith in our walk — which we are content to try and manage ourselves. From the Garden of Eden, to the first church in Acts, to the worship of God in Revelation — scripture reveals to us that we were created to be part of a community. The Church plays a vital role in bringing together the people of God in prayer, worship, fun, and care.

I pray you will join us this spring as we explore what it means to be a community of God and a community for God.

A Very Mary Christmas

A Very Mary Christmas

Mary; mother of Jesus, wife of Joseph, child bride, teen mother, fierce protector, justice seeker, faithful servant. The story of Mary is far more than meets the eye. Each Advent season, Christian communities return to Mary’s song, often called the “Magnificat” because of the first word in its Latin translation: Magníficat anima mea Dominum (“My soul magnifies the Lord”). It’s a kind of chorus for the church, an annual refrain: an angel visits an ordinary young woman, gives her good news of great joy – and she lifts her voice to sing.

Advent means “coming” or “arrival.” It’s a season of anticipation, of actively waiting and preparing for Jesus to arrive, and to usher in a new world. In Bethlehem, yes, and also everywhere else, too, including our homes, our lives, our neighborhoods. Mary’s song, then, is about that day long ago; and it’s also about all of us, yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

This Advent I invite you to join us as we follow Mary on her incredible journey of hope and faith.

Book Club

Join us as we continue our book club reading the book Life Worth Living. Pre-registration is required, but you don’t have to be available to attend all sessions. There will be one meeting a month from through December and we ask the participants finish each section before the meeting so we can have the most fruitful conversation.

What makes a good life? The question is inherent to the human condition, asked by people across generations, professions, and social classes, and addressed by all schools of philosophy and religions. Drawing from the major world religions and from impressively truthful and courageous secular figures, A Life Worth Living is a guide to life’s most pressing question, the one asked of all of us: How are we to live?
